Being King of the Beach with the KOB Spalding Volleyball.
We have already done reviews for beach volleyballs and generally we recommend Mikasa or Wilson balls, e.g. the Mikasa VLS300 Beach Champ. Mikasa is very popular in Europe & Asia and Wilson in the US but both can be a bit pricey at times. So if you are looking for other options besides Mikasa or the Wilson AVP Optx, you might want to consider the Spalding King of the Beach.
Spalding is an American sporting goods manufacturer based in Kentucky (USA) that is very well-known for its basketballs, footballs and volleyballs. Their King of the Beach volleyball is an official size and weight all-weather ball. Its leather composite material makes its touch quite soft which can be advantageous for beginners. In contrast to the typical Mikasa blue and yellow panel look, the King of the Beach comes in black and white with a golden logo.

What are the pros of the King of the Beach?
With its hand-stitched all-weather microfiber composite cover, the Spalding can withstand some tough weather conditions. Even when there is rain, it does not get too heavy when wet and dries quickly. Moreover, we found the ball easy to control, even in windy conditions. And we think it is a great value-for-money option since it is usually less costly than a Mikasa or Wilson.
Any downsides to be mentioned?
We found that the King of the Beach seems to lose air faster than the Mikasa VLS 300. Still not an issue, just good to know. And when you order it, please be aware that there are replicas out there, so be sure to get the right ball. Following the links we provide, you will be fine.
Finally, the Spalding King of the Beach volleyball shipped deflated. Therefore you should keep a ball pump on hand to make the ball ready to use. You can find a good and inexpensive ball pump in our Affiliate Shop.
