Doppler/Horst reach final of FIVB World Championships in Vienna
After another striking win followed by tears, Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst (Austria) have reached the final at the FIBV Beach Volleyball Championship in Vienna. Compared to their matches before, this one was rather a straight win in only two sets, 22:20 and 21:19, against Liamin/Krasnilikow (Russia).
It was the first rainy day in Vienna since the start of the tournament and considering this was a semifinal, the two Austrians played incredibly calm. Almost in a stoic way, both of them delivered another amazing performance. “It’s unbelievable, it’s like a fairy tale,” Doppler said afterwards.
Doppler/Horst have a medal for sure and will now be facing the Brazilians Andre Loyola/Evandro in the final, a team they have already played once this season. Back in Fort Lauderdale in February, the Brazilians won 18-16 in the tie break. Doppler: “I really don’t know what to expect now because I don’t know how they’re going to react to the World Championship final, for them it’s also the first time”.
