Earphones for the beach – Sony MDR-XB50AP Extra Bass
When I go to the beach, I like to bring some nice headphones, especially when going by myself to relax. In recent years, I have been trying out quite a few models, either because I didn’t like my current ones or because I lost my previous ones. Finally I have found my preferred pair and even if I lose it, I will exactly buy the same ones again.
The Sony MDR-XB50AP Extra Bass Earbuds are a wired headset with a powerful deep bass. I know that lots of folks go for bluetooth and wireless. But to be honest, I think the sound quality is suffering when you do that. That’s why I am still using the wired ones. The Sony MDR come with integrated microphone and a smartphone playback control which can be used for play and pause. For adjusting the volume, you use your phone.
What do I like about the Sony earphones?
As already mentioned, I think the sound quality is really superior. And although they are being advertised with extra bass, I don’t think the bass is overpowering. It’s just a great overall sound. And in contrast to other models, these Sony earbuds don’t fall off easily. Even when moving, they stay in a stable and comfortable fit. With their good fit, they do provide a noise cancelling effect. Though not technically offering noise cancelling, they do block out external sounds. For that reason I am sometimes using them on airplanes without playing music, just to get some rest without having all the background noise around me.
What are the downsides?
The Sony MDR-XB50AP are probably somewhat bigger and heavier than other earphones. For relaxing at the beach and for travelling, this is not an issue. If you wanna use them for running or your workouts, they might not be the perfect choice, especially if you are looking for lightweight ones. And so far I cannot comment on longevity. I mean I already got my second pair. But this is not because the earbuds were not working anymore, I simply lost my last pair and needed a replacement.
Should you get the Sony MDR?
I think for around 30 bucks, these headphones are amazing value for money. Moreover, they come in different colors and you can choose between black, white, red and blue. Some colors are less poular than others and this is reflected in different prices. My favorite color is blue and lucky enough, the blue pair is usually cheaper than the black or white ones.
