The recently formed new partnerships in the US are still struggling to challenge the established teams. With no major Saturday upsets to report from the AVP Champions Cup Series, the top teams are all on track to some well-known finals. Will the Wilson Cup see the same winners as last weekend?
Last weekend’s champions Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena as well as last weekend’s finalists Jake Gibb and Taylor Crabb showed another impeccable performance with two straight wins that secured them the semifinal spots. While Dalhausser/Lucena will play the winner of Brunner/Patterson vs. Budinger/Schalk, Gibb/Crabb are waiting for either Casebeer/Hyden or Tri Bourne/Trevor Crabb. The Hawaiian boyhood friends Tri and Trevor were sent to the contenders bracket after a rough quarterfinal match against Dalhausser/Lucena where only in the freeze the Hawaiians were able to step up their game. They still lost 14:21, 18:21. The qualifier teams Loomis/Partain and Santos/Evans were eliminated after two straight losses.
On the women’s side, things seem to move towards another final between the A-Team Alix Klineman/April Ross and Canada’s world champions Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes. Both teams have a long history of final matches. Both reached the semis through the winners bracket where they are waiting for the victorious teams from the contenders matches between Kolinske/Stockman vs. Day/Fendrick and last weekend’s finalists Hughes/Wilkerson vs. Claes/Sponcil. Today’s action starts at 8:15am PT with the women’s contenders matches. Finals will be played at 12:45pm for the women and 2pm for the men. The matches will be livestreamed on Amazon Prime Video.
