Ludiwg/Walkenhorst win FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship in Vienna
In another impressive match, Olympic champions Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst have won the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship in Vienna, Austria. After winning the Olympics in Rio, Swatch World Tour Finals and European Championships last year, this is the missing gold medal in their impressive medal set.
Even though their opponents April Ross and Lauren Fendrick won the first tight set 21:19, the Germans never seemed to lose control in the final match. Once again Kira Walkenhorst with strong blocking at the net and Laura Ludwig showing world class defense, they won the second set 21:13. The final set was going to be a clear 15:9 win with both Ludwig and Walkenhorst playing again at the same amazing level as last year in Rio.
Their victory is the highlight of a year that had been difficult due to several inuries both have been suffering from. “It’s unbelievable, I still can’t realize what we’ve achieved in the last 10 days” said Walkenhorst after the match”.
