Dalhausser/Lucena win FIVB World Tour Finals
With an impressive performance American beach volleyball oldies Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena (both 37) have won the FIVB World Tour Finals in Hamburg, Germany. The 2015 World Tour Finals silver medalists made up for a rather disappointing World Championship performance in Vienna.
Brazilians Evandro/Andre Loyola without rhythm
Their 21:15, 21:13 victory against current World Champions Evandro/Andre Loyola (Brazil) was as straight as is sounds. The Brazilians – that had just won the World Championships in Vienna earlier this month – never found their rhythm. Evandro did not manage to get his notorious killer serve in place and did not serve a single ace. Instead, he started the first set producing numerous serving errors. On the other side, Dalhausser’s strong blocking and consistent side outs secured the first set for the Americans. In the second set, Brazil continued with many unforced errors. An early time out called by Brazil didn’t leave them many options to stop their opponents’ run.
After the match Dalhausser analysed:
“We caught Evandro on an off day. He made a lot of errors and we got lucky with that. Nick played steady and that was good enough today.”

Phil Dalhausser
Their World Tour Finals success earns Dalhausser/Lucena a paycheck of $ 100.000.
They should be so proud of themselves. They totally deserved that paycheck of $100.000 and hopefully they continue to success in the future. Thanks for sharing.
Yes it was a great success for the US guys in the fall of their careers.
Great coverage, I like the background info you provide. It sounds like it was a grudge match between the two teams.
There was definitely some tension but that’s how a final should be 🙂
