Top teams disappoint at Fort Lauderdale Major – World Champs out!

The first FIVB Major Series event of the 2018 season in Fort Lauderdale (USA) already had some major upsets before the final weekend has even been reached. In the men’s competition, current World Champions Evandro/Andre Loyola (Brazil) lost their first elimination round match against Italian wild cards Ranghieri/Caminati. Not only were the Brazilian gold medalists eliminiated in the round of 24, but also the silver and bronze medalists of the Vienna 2017 World Championships. While Doppler/Horst (Austria) lost against Canadians Pedlow/Schachter, Liamin/Krasilnikov from Russia were defeated by Guto Carvalhees/Vitor Felipe (Brazil). Defending Fort Lauderdale champions Alvaro Filho/Saymon Barbosa (Brazil) had already been eliminated in the qualification round by Czech team Perusic/Schweiner.
In the women’s competiton last year’s bronze medalists Laboureur/Sude (Germany) were eliminated in the round of 24 by Agatha/Duda (Brazil). The Hague winners Klineman/Ross lost two matches in pool play which also eliminated them from the tournament. The Fort Lauderdale event continues with the round of 16 this Friday.
