Having followed the World and European Championships in August, the World Tour and the AVP Finals just a few days ago, one might consider this beach volleyball season to have finished. This might be true for the US and Europe but not for Asia. End of September the best teams of South East Asia will compete against each other to find their champion.
Singapore to host 29th South East Asian Beach Volleyball Championships
For the first time the small state of Singapore will host the 29th South East Asian Beach Volleyball Championships from September 28 to 30 at Sentosa’s Palawan Beach. Sentosa is a small Singaporean island with three beaches, one of them Palawan Beach. It is one of the main tourist attractions of Singapore.
Defending champions from Thailand
The defending champions in both men’s and women’s competitions are from Thailand. Their toughest competitors are probably coming from Indonesia that is participating with two strong teams in both competitions.
30 teams from 8 countries
Overall there will be 30 teams from 8 countries competing against each other. Besides Thailand and Indonesia participating countries are Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos, Philippines and Timor Leste. Host Singapore will compete with 3 teams in each the men’s and women’s competition. The highest seeded women’s team from Singapore is Eliza Chong/ Gladys Lee who have already played at the FIVB World Tour.
