Ross/Klineman win their first tournament at The Hague – Latvia takes men’s gold medal
With very consistent play April Ross and Alex Klineman (USA) won the FIVB 4-star indoor event at The Hague (Netherlands). Olympic medalist April Ross and her new partner showed a convincing performance at the first FIVB event of the year beating Maria Antonelli/Carol from Brazil in two clear sets (21:12, 21:15). Ross showed very strong serving with three aces in a row in the middle of the match. The Brazilians were struggling with service errors and problems when receiving American serves. The new partnership Klineman/Ross is already working at a very early stage in 2018 and they might be seen in more finals in the upcoming season. April Ross after their victory:
“Alex and I have the same mentality, same culture and share the same values.”
The bronze medal went to Betschart/Hüberli from Switzerland.
In the men’s competition, the final was a straightforward match for Plavins/Tocs (Latvia). In only 35 minutes they beat Kantor/Losiak (Poland) in two sets (21:14, 21:12). Edgar Tocs proved to be an insurmountable barrier at the net for the Polish. The event is the perfect season start for the newly formed Latvian team. In the semifinals both teams had won intense matches against local Dutch teams Brouwer/Meussen and Varenhorst/Bouter. The Dutch-only bronze medal match was a clear win for top-seeds Brouwer/Meussen.
