Paris 2024 – Beach Volleyball in front of the Eiffel Tower

The city of Paris is currently bidding for hosting the 2024 Olympic Summer Games. The concept foresees many venues in the heart of Paris including a beach volleyball venue at Champ de Mars at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.

Paris is trying to join London as the only cities to host the Olympics three times. Paris hosted the Olympics in 1900 and 1924 but failed with bids for the 1992, 2008, and 2012 Olympic Games. The only competitor left in the race for 2024 is Los Angeles. Both cities are very different from each other but both are convincing with excellent concepts. Therefore the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is considering awarding the Games for 2024 and 2028 at the same time to create a “Win-Win” situation for Paris and Los Angeles.
Like his predecessor Francois Hollande, the new French president Emmanuel Macron is committed to the project and personally supporting the Paris bid. In a recent phone call with IOC President Thomas Bach (Germany) he confirmed his and the city’s longstanding commitment to the Olympic idea. Providing his agenda allows it, he will also travel to Lima (Peru) where the final decision on the host city will be made on September 13, 2017.
Hi, before reading your post i never knew that volley ball was on this sort of scale! Never realised they hosted olympic type events and especially not in places like Paris and Los Angeles! I’m sure this will teach many people about the sport as it has me.
Well, actually Beach Volleyball has been an Olympic discipline since 1996 and gained tremendous popularity since then. But you are right, there is still lots of potential to make it even more popular…
That’s a cool looking photo.
I always look forward to watching beach volleyball at the Olympics and after playing on the odd occasion myself it makes you appreciate the game a lot more.
True. Once you played yourself you see the game with different eyes 🙂
Hi, Juan!
I love to watch beach volleyball. I guess it is because my country has two excellent players. They two times in a row are the best in the world (1 st place World Tour 2013, 2014 and then 2016 too). You can guess which country is that. 🙂 But I think you don’t need to guess, you know, right? Because you talk about beach volleyball and know many things about it.
Nice place for the Olympic Games. I like the photo.
Yeah that’s a great team from Latvia! Amazing country and some good players!
First, what a great photo! So amazing. I haven’t really watched or even thought about the olympics in a long time, probably since I was a child. I don’t remember volley ball being in the olympics but I understand it’s value as a sport and can understand why it is. Thanks for your educational post.
Yeah it is amazing. Beach Volleyball has officially been part of the Olympics since 1996 and grown in popularity tremendously since then.
Hey Juan,
Having lived in San Diego for a few years. I freaking love beach volleyball. It’s one of the best pastimes, keeps me athletic, and I get a great tan while I’m at it. Makes the Olympics way more fun to watch as well after having played myself for so long.
Playing in front of the Eiffel Tower would be quite the experience though. Can’t say I would be able to rival that one with our beach volleyball courts out here.
Thanks for sharing!

I agree that it is way more fun watching Olympics after having played yourself.
Beaches in California are also great. Probably it is mostly the rarity of the occasion to play in front of the Eiffel Tower 🙂
