Alison/Bruno during time out
With an impressive 2-set win current Olympic Champions Alison/ Bruno (Brazil) have successfully underligned their ambitions for also winning the FIVB World Championship in Vienna, Austria. In less than 30 minutes they beat the Latvian team Finsters/Tocs 21:15, 21:7. Especially in the 2nd set, Alison/Bruno’s athletic, dynamic and precise play didn’t leave any questions open.
Their performance impressed quite a significant crowd that had deliberately moved away from centre court to side court 3 in order to have a close look at the Olympic gold medal winners from Rio 2016. Centre court spots are quite rare in Vienna and are mostly reserved for either absolute top matches between high-seed teams. Or they are taken by Austrian or German teams that have been getting the most audience attendance in the tournament so far. A crowd of approximately 10.000 beach volleyball fans saw the win of Austrian’s top team Doppler/Horst last night and created an atmosphere that has hardly been seen before in any major beach volleyball tournament.
Meanwhile after their quick win against the Latvians, you could find Alison strolling around the Beach Village together with his girlfriend enjoying the atmosphere. It will probably be somewhat less relaxing in the round of 16 where Alison/Bruno will be facing the Canadian top team Saxton/Schalk that beat Grimalt/Grimalt from Chile in two sets. This time Alison/Bruno captured a spot on centre court. All matches can be followed live after registration at: https://www.beachvienna.com/en/users/registration
