Masterplan Paris 2024 approved – Beach Volleyball next to Eiffel Tower
Last week, Paris was awarded the 2024 Summer Olympics by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). By doing so, the IOC approved the masterplan by architects Populous and engineers Egis. As already reported in May, this masterplan includes beach volleyball courts being installed at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.
Beach volleyball next to Eiffel Tower is only one of Paris’ numerous iconic Olympics 2024 venues
Overall, Populous and Egis plan with 38 Olympic and Paralympic venues spread across the city of Paris. This includes temporary venues in front of the capital’s most amazing sights. Events will take place next to the Eiffel Tower, Champs-Élysées and River Seine. One of Populous’ senior principals says:
“Transforming some of the world’s most beautiful and historic sites into temporary stunning stages for sport will provide unforgettable images around the globe.”
Besides beach volleyball in front of the Eiffel Tower, cycling will take place at Champs-Élysées, equestrian events at the Versailles Palace and archery in front of Napoleon’s tomb at the Invalides. Tennis will be played at Roland Garros and Stade de France will operate as Olympic Stadium.
Santa Monica Beach will host beach volleyball for the Los Angeles 2028 Games
Together with the Paris 2024 decision announced in Lima (Peru) last week, the IOC also named Los Angeles the host for the 2028 Olympics. For Los Angeles 2028, beach volleyball will be played at Santa Monica Beach, one of the birthplaces of beach volleyball. For this purpose a temporary stadium will be established near Santa Monica Pier.
