Playing beach volleyball can be very exhaustive. Hot weather and lack of training can turn playing beach volleyball 2 vs. 2 into a strenuous battle. A popular option (e.g. for beginners) is to play with more than 4 players. Especially in leisure and fun oriented groups it is well accepted to play 3 vs. 3 or 4 vs. 4. This facilitates playing since 2 vs. 2 can be very exhausting for players with lack of experience and training. However, more players require more communication since often it is not quite clear who plays which ball.
For 3 vs. 3 games usually one player positions himself close to the net and 2 players in back of the court. In 4 vs. 4 games the so-called “diamond” is the preferred position.
