The US$300,000 Tokyo Open will be a test and qualifiying event for the 2020 Olympic beach volleyball competition. The winners will share the $20,000 first-place prize purse and collect 800 Olympic qualifying points.
The 4-star event’s main draw starts on Thurdsday with the same 24-team format as for Tokyo 2020.
On the men’s side, Norwegian youngsters Mol/Sorum are the favorites for the gold medal. They will be challenged by Polish top teams Kantor/Losiak and Fijalek/Bryl. For the US, both Crabb brothers will be competing. Besides Bourne/Trevor Crabb and Taylor Crabb/Gibb, US veterans Dalhausser/Lucena and Brunner/Priddy are travelling to the Tokyo event.
In the women’s competition, all Brazilian top teams will fight for gold. They will go up against world champions Pavan/Humana-Paredes and Gstaad winners Klineman/Ross. Find the full schedule and results here.
