Gstaad (SUI)

The FIVB World Tour returns to Gstaad! This time not as part of the Beach Major Series but as a regular 4-star World Tour event. It is the last major event before the Olympic Games in Tokyo starting end of the month. For more prep time prior to the Tokyo Games, some top teams are not competing in Gstaad. Especially the US teams Phil Dalhausser/ Nick Lucena, Jake Gibb/ Taylor Crabb and A-Team April Ross/ Alix Klineman will not participate in Switzerland.

With these drop-outs, the women’s field is spearheaded by Switzerland’s Heidrich/Vergé-Dépré and Agatha/ Duda of Brazil. Tokyo Olympians Sponcil / Claes (USA) will try to continue their recent success series that led them to the Olympics. On the men’s side, the exciting question will be if world ranking leaders Anders Mol/ Christian Sorum will find their way back on track after some weaker recent results in Sochi (Russia) and Ostrava (Czech Republic). The Norwegian Vikings are still leading the pack and will be challenged by Qatar’s top team Cherif/ Ahmed and Brazil’s Evandro/ Bruno Schmidt.

The main draw starts on Wednesday (July 7), medal matches will be played on Saturday for the men and on Sunday for the women. You can watch all the matches on the Beach Volleyball World Youtube channel.
