Last year Rio de Janeiro was the centre of the beach volleyball world. The Olympic tournament showed great and exciting matches.

This year a FIVB 4**** event takes place at Olympic Tennis Centre in Barra da Tijuca district in Rio between May 17-21. It is the second time that the venue is hosting a beach volleyball event after an exhibition tournament in February 2017. Thus despite having great beaches such as Copacabana and Ipanema, Rio organizers decided to play in a stadium away from the beach.
Some of the world’s best beach volleyball teams will be back. Among them are Alison/Bruno Schmidt (Brazil) as well Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst (Germany), all of them Olympic gold medal winners from 2016.
The tournament will be played in a combined group stage followed by a classic knock-out mode. For results and further information refer to http://worldtour.2017.fivb.com/en/434.
I love Beach Volleyball. I watch it when I come across it but don’t follow it like I should. This world class event in Brazil looks interesting. The best of the best is a must see.
It definitely is a must see. There are several livestreams online in case you wanna watch it…
Ohh!! Thanks for the post! Since today is 17th, I completely forgot about this event. I am a pretty big fan of Laura Ludwig. What is your favorite team? What team has the best shot at winning?
I would assume that Laura and Kira have very good chances although Laura is still suffering from a recent injury…
