87 World Tour Events – The 2019 FIVB calendar is a monster

Last season, the FIVB had already doubled the number of World Tour events compared to the previous season. But the 2018/2019 calendar that has been announced this week is even bigger. 87 events (both genders) at 52 different stops is huge. And there are even more events to announced, e.g. on European (CEV) level.
For lower ranked events, there is still a focus on emerging markets, especially in Asia. But there will also be several new stops in the 4- and 5-star category. A new 5-star event not being part of the Major Series is planned to be held in Rome from June 19-23. In case it is confirmed, it will be the World Tour’s only stop in Italy. A 4-star tournament in Sydney (Australia) in March is also waiting for confirmation. And in May, the Tour will stop in Los Angeles for a 4-star event, the exact location is still open. Florida will host a 3-star directly after the Fort Lauderdale Major in February.
The absolute highlight of the year are the World Championships between June 28 and July 7. They will be held in Hamburg (Germany), the city that hosted the World Tour Finals just a few weeks ago. The 2019 World Tour Finals have not yet been confirmed and are currently being negotiated. There will also be a World Olympic Qualification tournament taking place in China. This qualification tournament will feature 16 top teams, each from a different national federation, that will determine two spots per gender for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
With this monster calendar and this huge amount of events it is hard to get the full picture. Our 2018/2019 event calendar helps you to keep track of all events, not only on FIVB level. We are also including events being announced on the American (AVP), Asian (AVC), European (CEV) and German (DVV) tour.
Can you tell me what days will you be in Fort Lauderdale?
Just as the FTL Major, from February 5-10, 2019 🙂
